What?! Huh? PETA goes to extremes...

As those who know me are aware, I LOVE animals. I really do. Especially those of the mutt species. And I am ALL FOR getting a pup from a rescue if you want a pup. Its all good. My pup is a rescue.

I have also supported PETA in the past. But as I've gotten older, I've found it harder and harder (it doesn't help that Kevin thinks they are total nut-jobs). Not due to their stand on vivisection, which I have to admit I agree with for the most part, but rather their stand on pets.

This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from manipulating their breeding, selling or giving them away casually, and depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. Their lives are restricted to human homes where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to.

I even tried (and failed) to defend them over the horse racing issue (which was pretty ridiculous, but I always play Devil's Advocate when Kevin starts on a topic- its fun!).

Unfortunately, they've gone to far now. I'm over them. Nothing could make me go back to supporting their cause.

This video is reprehensible and truly beyond the pale- and patently untrue. In my mind, they have aligned themselves with that same mentality that the "Right to Life" protesters with their graphic signage have. And I think its inappropriate.

I gave up on PETA a long time ago. Domestic dogs are too adapted to living in symbiosis with humans - that is their natural behavior. And domestic cats are apparently descended from a group of self-domesticating wild cats about 10,000 years ago: in other words, it was their idea, not ours.

How does PETA propose we all get rid of our pets? Drive them across town and abandon them to be hit by cars or starve to death? And that's better than making them wait until they get outside to pee?

God, what a bunch of stupid, bossy attention whores, really.
