I Hate Cows...

This past week...

in random order, cause I am too disorganized to do anything else):

1. Don Imus is a putz.

2. Kurt Vonnegut died on my birthday. He was my favorite author ever.

3. I am well and truly 35 now.

4. Chicago is nice, when the sun is actually shining.

5. I am starting to look pregnant.

6. Speaking of which, a person who will not be named said this after being told that its more typical for a pregnant woman to feel nauseus rather than actually hungry when her stomach is empty: "Oh, is that why they get so fat?" to which I wanted to say, "And what's your excuse?"

Now, I didn't say it, which was good, cause it would not have been nice, but please, there are certain things you shouldn't say in front of crabby pregnant women.

7. We went to a restaurant in Chicago, where they put ONION RINGS on their salad. I hope its not a trend.

8. Both the Chicken Vesuvio and the Chicken Marsala were wonderful at Harry Caray's in Chicago. But the bread and fresh squeezed lemonade were even better.

9. Buca di Beppo in Chicago does a very nice gnocchi.

10. My husband is very nice to me, even when I am crabby.

11. My sister and brother-in-law are also very nice- thank you so much for gift, carrot cake and fruit salad!

12. I missed my kid a lot. My in-laws were great to take her for the week- she had a wonderful time.

13. Vosge chocolates are the best.

14. Grindhouse is okay, not great. Planet Terror was FAR superior to Death Proof, though Kurt Russell was having a good time.

So, as you can tell, we were in Chicago last week. The weather was kind of sucky, in fact the first day we were there we took the train into the city, and got off at the first stop that said "Navy Pier/Grand", because our hotel was on the Magnificent Mile and I had read that the Navy Pier was there as well. Turns out- WRONG. Anyway, so we walked two miles through hail and sleet and wind, in a fairly rough neighborhood, 'til we finally slogged into the hotel. During the journey we got soaked by a bus in muddy water (told the Vosge lady about this and that it was my birthday, and she gave me a free truffle! Go Vosge!). They were nice enough to let us into our room early and we were able to shower and go out to the Art Institute of Chicago. Next day was more of the same weather, fairly miserable, but that was okay, as we had a conference to go to. Also went out to the Navy Pier and to Buca di Beppo's for Kev's birthday. Friday was bright and beautiful- we went to Grant Park and had a nice time. Ate at Harry Caray's- crowded but the food was good. Managed to get to the airport early and got an earlier flight out.

I don't know how quickly I would go back to Chicago- it was a nice city, but not my favorite by far. Maybe I'll try Las Vegas next time!

Give the guy a camera instead of pointing it at him all the time! I never saw pics of you pregnant with Rora and I feel totally deprived.

Also, conference? What conference? You never said anything about that.
