Interesting court decision...
that I don't agree with:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/highschool/11/30/lawsuit.ap/index.html?cnn=yesThe basics details are that a boy wanted to be allowe don a girls' high school gymnastics team as there was no boys' version. He was denied. Personally, I thin kit should have been allowed, and the tema should have simply become co-ed. All high school sprts teams that cannot field both a girls' and boys' team should be co-ed. All of them. But that's my opinion. What do you think?
Oh, and I have to agree with Peter King on
this. (Just so you can't say I'm not agreeable)
Odd question...
So, this morning my daughter was doing her early morning bathroom routine (pretending to be asleep, getting tickled till she wakes up fully, bribed into actually getting out of bed, going potty, brushing teeth and hair, getting dressed, etc) when she asked,
"Mama, is there a camera in the bathroom?"
"Uh, no- why do you ask?"
"How is Santa Claus watching me then?"

Ultimate Girl Geeks of All TimeAnd who knew about Hedy Lamarr?! Go Hedy!

4. Hedy Lamarr: Who said a geek couldn't be beautiful and talented? Hedy Lamarr is known for her Hollywood career as a movie actress, but what many don't know is that this silver screen goddess also had a passion for invention. She, along with George Antheil, invented a classified communications system for the U.S. military. The technology she invented then is now used in cell phones and Wi-Fi connections today
Things I need to do today...
1. Find fancy clothes to wear to a fancy dinner. Preferably they should be inexpensive, but good quality, and they should flatter my figure and suit my taste. (I have a popsicle's chance in hell)
2. Write a nasty letter to Verizon. (Just 'cause I can)
3.
Calculate PI.
4. Make muffins. (Rora's teachers requested some. Am I the only Mom at that school who sends fresh baked goods with her kid for breakfast? All the rest of them eat Pop-Tarts. now, every once in a while, a Pop-Tart is nice, but that's ridiculous.)
5. Work out. (Because of fresh baked goods. Yummy Apricot Coffee Cake!)
6. Clean house. (A must after calculating PI)
7. Watch Tom Waits on Letterman and Cobert. (Duh)
8. Buy presents. (Gah!)
9. Wrap presents. (Gah!)
10. Start Christmas cards. (Gah!)
This should NOT be as accurate as it is...

Ah, Turkey Day...
Thanksgiving is over, and I have that same general malaise I used to get right after Christmas. All the anticipation is over, now everything just needs to be cleaned up.
But it was good. Hectic, but good. Lots and lots of food, family in town, much scrabble was played (I won all but 1 game- which Dad won, go figure. That's what happens when all of the letters you pull spell nothing but Klingon battle cries), and the endless "discussions" (not arguments ladies and gentleman, we never argue, not us, not THIS family), which included topics such as:
Violence on TV, and its effect on Children
How Jamee's kitchen should be redesigned
Whether Mom fed the dogs better than my sister and I when we were kids (this is totally true, I swear)
Johnny Cash- country star or not?
The general suckiness of Country music
How the damn stuffing should be prepared (held over the phone, long-distance, between my mother and grandmother)
Needless to say, the most contentious of these "discussions" involved music.
The holiday was survived though- my daughter LOVED seeing her grandparents (and would have loved it JUST as much even if they hadn't bought her everything she asked for), the food was damn tasty, the beer was foamy.
All is good. I just have to get started on the menu for NEXT year...

Big wedding day...
So, I'm sure we all know about the
big wedding that happened today...
but honestly, I couldn't care less.
A more important wedding happened on this day, 35 years ago, and that's what I'm thinking about. That's when my parents (my VERY young parents) got married.

All I can say is that I appreciate how much work has to be put into a relationship to make it last that long, and yet still seem happy and new.
Congratulations, you freaky people.
And no, I am NOT getting you a cruise for your anniversary.
PLEASE.

P.S. Just kidding. Those who don't die of ptomaine poisoning after eating at my house usually just don't want to come back.
The joys of Fall...
I can't believe I forgot!
Here's a picture of Rora in her Halloween costume...

and a kid anecdote:
My most excellent
sister picked my kid up from school yesterday because we were caught in horrendous traffic.
On the way back, she asked Rora to recite her ABCs...
and Rora says, "A,B, C, D, E, F, G... GO PATRIOTS!"
"But what about the rest of the alphabet?", Sister asks.
"GO PATRIOTS!"
Her father was so proud.
A good time was had by all...
I can't believe Halloween is over. I'm really stunned. And now I have less than three weeks to prepare for T-day guests. Egad. I might have to go into witness protection.
Anyway, Rora had lots fun last night and it was very cute watching her and Rowan (her brother, along with Isaac, another classmate of hers- see we haven't had siblings for her, so she just grabs them where she can) walking hand in hand to get treats.
Cute that is until one little old lady was a bit too slow for her so she walked right into the house and put her greedy little hand in the woman's bowl to grab what she wanted.
Nope, that wasn't cute.
