I decided to go with the theme of what people typically find scary- spiders, rats, vampires, etc, and choose a song for each one (sometimes more- so sue me!). Its fairly light-hearted rather than gloomy, although it does get darker as you go along- sort of like one of those movies that starts out all light and fun, and ends up with heads rolling on the ground. I hope it was enjoyed!
Monsters Lead Such Interesting Lives by Mel Torme
I thought this was a nice introduction to a mix about what scares people...
"They'll steal your heart Tear you apart Limb from limb On a wim They'll suck your brains And eat your remains They'll slice you up with little forks and knives They're never merry They're oh so scary Monsters lead such interesting lives"
Jack the Ripper by Screaming Lord Sutch
Fear of People Who Lurk in the Dark. The most famous boogey man of all...
Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
Fear of Bad Parties? Nope, Fear of the Dead.
Don't be afraid.. its only me"
I love this song.
Destroyer by The Kinks
Fear of.. Fear Itself. Ah, paranoia...
Something Bad Happened to a Clown by Warren Zevon
Fear of Clowns. So many people are afraid of clowns, this song allows those with an imagination to get their revenge...
Psycho Killer by Talking Heads
Fear of Psychos. I thought the more generic psycho killer should get some props...
Sympathy For the Devil by Bossa N'Stones
Fear of the Devil. Have to have a nod to the man himself...
Good Rats by Dropkick Murphys
Fear of Rats. Not really a Halloween song, but it turns out I don't have much in the way of "rat-themed" music. I'll have to see if iTunes has Ben.
The Boogie Monster by Gnarls Barkely
Fear of the Boogey Man. This might be my favorite song on the list- and it has both the generic Boogey man and Schizophrenia!
Boris the Spider by The Who
Fear of Spiders. I love this song, and though there were lots of choices for the Fear of Spiders, this worked best.
Haunted House Blues by Bessie Smith
Fear of Haunted Houses. Ah, she's a classic, and so is the song.
I Walked with a Zombie by REM
Fear of the Undead...
Werewolf Blues by Walker T. Ryan
Fear of Werewolves (or becoming one). Another favorite discovery- and who wants to wake up furry and covered in blood anyway? Okay, I guess I don't want to know...
March of the Sinister Ducks by The Sinister Ducks
Fear of Ducks. A must-have song. What, you aren't afraid of ducks? You don't know them that well then, do you? And besides, I couldn't find any scary cow songs...
Kong at the Gates by The Misfits
Fear of giant monkeys? Or fear of bad movies by Peter Jackson? Its your call...
Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) by Concrete Blonde
Fear of Vampires. Ah, so many to choose from. But this one totally rocks.
Dead Souls by Nine Inch Nails
Fear of Ghosts... besides which, this was used in The Crow, which is an excellent movie for Halloween.
Season of the Witch by Dr. John
Fear of witches... (and another favorite of mine)
And perhaps the creepiest song of all...
Careful With That Axe, Eugene by Pink Floyd
Fear of Axe-wielding Maniacs. Makes sense to me. Very creepy and subtle.
it was a two disk set that I got last Thursday, and due to an incredibly hectic weekend, I only finished listening to it yesterday.
Its an interesting, eclectic mix- I look forward to hearing why some songs were included [If I Had a Hammer? I bet that story is good! ;)].
Anyway, I really appreciate it- I love hearing interesting music... and I have a sneaking suspicion I know who my Mixmania match was... I'll have to wait till tomorrow to see if I'm right though!
Its been a while since I've sketched just to sketch, and I thought that if I was going to do it, I might as well post them, otherwise they just go in the trash with all the others...
This guy takes the cake for Most Amazing Dad Ever (no diss on the various Dads in my life- but you've got to give this guy props).
Saw Cabaret at Arena Stage last night. It was really great, though some of the Abu Ghraib references were so forced it was like being beaten over the head with them. It was in the round, which I like, and they made good use of it. Unfortunately, Sally Bowles was channelling Liza Minnelli, but Clifford was lovely, and more human than Michael York was in the film. And the Master of Ceremonies? Genius.
So, Kevin and I in the car again today, and we start talking about a person I know who likes to discuss his religion, in sort of that offhand manner that indicates everyone understands exactly what he means, agrees, and worships thusly. Not true, of course, but that's the way he acts.
Kevin tells me his solution to this sort of thing is to goggle his eyes at the person and ask, "Have you accepted The Great Pumpkin as you personal Savior? Have you?! Would you like to hear my testimony?"
Kevin lives in his own happy world, doesn't he?
Then, for no other reason than because I was irritated by this person, and started cursing my head off, we began discussing the best usages of the word f@$% (This is a family-oriented blog you know. Alright, it isn't, but my mother reads it- okay?).
My personal favorite is cute little Joan Chen in The Blood of Heroes (one of my all-time favorite movies), growling "f@$%ing f@$% f@$%!" during a match, right before she bit off some dude's ear. Very cool.
Kevin likes "You're the vulgarian, you f@$%!" from A Fish Called Wanda.
Another noteable example:
From the Battle of Shaker Heights (and yes, I realize its not f@$%- its still good though):
Lance: Why are you dicking with me, you little dick. You wanna play, dick face?" Kelley: Wait, you just used "dick" as a noun, adjective, and a verb.
For some reason, my co-worker has a banana in his ear. Don't ask.
Recently, I've been driving into work every day with my husband (about an hour commute on a good day), and no, I haven't killed him yet. It IS different though. On my own, I usually listen to NPR, or audiobooks, music, whatever. He prefers to listen to ESPN radio (despite the fact that it comes in horribly- more static than words- I hate it). So, to compromise, we actually have discussions. Yes, I know its incredible, but we talk. Usually about utter nonsense.
This morning, he was comparing the Argonauts to Pirates, stating his opinion that the Argonauts themselves were just pirates, and it wasn't fair that they are thought of so highly, while pirates are vilified. I always try to play Devils' Advocate ('cause its fun), so I said there was a huge difference between the two, as the Argonauts had been sent by a God, and herefore, they were on "a mission from God."
Which lead us to discussing the Blues Brothers being cast as Jason and his First Mate on the Argo. There was some argument as to whether John Belushi or Dan Akroyd was to be Jason, but the end result was the same: I'll never think of Jason and the Argonauts again without imagining them in pork-pie hats and sunglasses.
I'm going to an ACTUAL play this Thursday (thank you to my brother-in-law for babysitting)- we'll be seeing Cabaret at Arena Stage and going out to dinner- I'll let you know how it is. I haven't been to a live performance that wasn't a concert since we saw The Blue Man Group in Boston, and that was a LONG time ago.
Sweet Potato pie is heresy, and should NEVER have been created.
We have decided to go with a Nola theme for Thanksgiving, but I'm having trouble finding good veggie recipes- any suggestions?
On that Rora front, she can now write her name with no help from us whatsoever, and her new favorite phrase is "What the HECK?". Could be worse, that's my motto.
Alignment: Neutral Good characters believe in the power of good above all else. They will work to make the world a better place, and will do whatever is necessary to bring that about, whether it goes for or against whatever is considered 'normal'.
Race: Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.
Primary Class: Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.
Secondary Class: Druids are a special variety of Cleric who serves the Earth, and can call upon the power in the earth to accomplish their goals. They tend to be somewhat fanatical about defending natural settings.
Deity: Mielikki is the Neutral Good goddess of the forest and autumn. She is also known as the Lady of the Forest, and is the Patron of Rangers. Her followers are devoted to nature, and believe in the positive and outreaching elements of it. They use light armor, and a variety of weapons suitable for hunting, which they are quite skilled at. Mielikki's symbol is a unicorn head.
was to post some Fashion Week atrocities (of which there were many, including the KKK inspired dress, metallic cog boots and the ever-present leather fetishists), but instead I went to http://www.savedarfur.org/.
I've read some about Darfur, and in the typical way of things, had planned to do "something" about it, but hadn't gotten around to it. But today I decided to stop the procrastination, and I pledged to join the DarfurFast tomorrow along with STAND, and donated some money (which will be MATCHED by another donor and then distributed to the Genocide Intervention Network).
So why don't you join me?
If you do, and you are near me, I will make you iftar.
