Um, AAAARGGHHH!

My pirate name is:

Iron Jenny Bonney

A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you are a tough person. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

MEME MEME MEME MEME (to the tune of "spam")...

Okay, was tagged (bad Anna! bad!).

Ground Rules: Write a blog entry about your Five Guilty Pleasures, state the rules clearly, and tag five people to carry it on.

1. Hall and Oates. Yes, I said it and I don't care what you think. I like Hall and Oates. I tried denying it for several years, when I cared whether the withering masses thought I was cool. Over that now. She's a rich girl, but she's gone too far...
2. American Idol. Yes, I watch it, and I love the early episodes. Last night's was particularly good, with the counterpoints of one girl who channeled Billy Holiday with her voice, body and Soul (17 years old she was!) and another who managed to be crass, ignorant and a bad sport all at the same time. Lots of fun.
3. Crappy vampire movies. I don't care how bad- I'll watch them. I love them. Dracula 2000? Yes! From Dusk till Dawn? A favorite! Fright Night? Definately! I could go on and on...
4. Halloween. I'm already making plans for this year. Don't give me that look! It isn't that ridiculous!
5. Crossword puzzles. But especially those that someone else started and couldn't finish. Yes, I know- bad me. And I also look over people's shoulders as they do them. I hunt for them when I am visiting relatives. Yesterday I helped my grandmother with one over the phone (The answer is "Vietnam"! No, that doesn't end with a "coh"!). I can't help myself.

Okay- that's them. Don't really have anyone to tag on this, as I'm sure Mario's already done it, and Anna sent it on to me. So unfortunately, the meme stops here. I'm sure some other useful soul will pass it on though....

Remember that house I said I might bid on?

Its my house now!

Now, I still have to have the inspection (tomorrow), but as long as that goes well...

And for those of you who don't know, the last house I bid on and got a contract on totally failed inspection. It was wired by crazed wolverines and the whole thing was caving in on itself. Remarkably, this wasn't apparent to non-professional eyes.

Or at least to starry-eyed "I'm gonna buy my first house" eyes!

Cutest thing ever....

Am I wrong...

or do these two articles contradict each other?

Muslims perform last rites as haj winds down
MENA, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) - Muslim pilgrims performed final rites of the haj on Thursday, as the pilgrimage wound down safely after fears of the possible spread of bird flu and a repeat of the deadly stampedes of past years.

More than two million people took part in this year's haj...

Death Toll Rises to 345 in Hajj Stampede
MINA, Saudi Arabia - Thousands of Muslim pilgrims rushing to complete a symbolic stoning ritual during the hajj tripped over luggage Thursday, causing a crush in which at least 345 people were killed, the Interior Ministry said.

The stampede occurred as tens of thousands of pilgrims headed toward al-Jamarat...

Unless I'm mistaken, the first articles appears to indicate that there was no problems at the hajj (wound down safely?), while the second indicates that more people died this year than last?

The New Year...

So, its a new year, and just like every other lemming on this ball of dust, I set the resolutions of losing some weight (15 pounds) and working out more (train for a marathon anyone?).

So far, I'm not doing too well with either. I started the year off with a cold, not a bad cold mind you, but one good enough to sap all the energy out of me. I've run only about three times this year so far. And I've tried to cut back on calories, but I've really never been much of a diet person- I like eating a bit more than I like not eating, basically. And I spend much of my day in front of a computer, which for me means there is a constant urge to snack vacantly while typing away. On the days that I do manage to keep the cal totals low enough, I come home without a lot of energy to work out, and I'm starving and headachy. I think I might be setting my goals too low. They aren't set really THAT low- at about 1500 cal per day, but I think 1700 might be more reasonable? Who knows.

So, I've been going on like this since the start of the new year, feeling pretty bad about my will-power, till I read this from my friend Anna's blog.

And you know, she's right. And now I feel better.
