And now to rant...

on something I don't usually rant about.

Why do I not rant about this particular topic? Usually its because the House Gnome does enough of it himself. But its my turn now, so here goes.

DRAFT HOLD-OUTS! !#$%@! (calling Reggie Bush...)

These dudes are coming out of college, expecting to get paid MEGA sums of money- for nothing. Absolutely nothing. They want it because they have the POTENTIAL to be something. But that's it. And potential is NOT ENOUGH.

Yes, you played great in college.

But the NFL is NOT college football.

Didn't know that?

Its true- ask Steve Emtman. Or Ki-Jana Carter. Or Mike Mamula. (I'm sure Kevin could list a hundred more)

Now, I know your agents are telling you otherwise. I know the typical "strategy" is to hold out until you get the "respect" you deserve. I know that if you are first, second, third in the draft- you want your salary to reflect that. But I'll tell you something- if you miss out on camp, if you don't get the playbook, if you don't learn your way around the team- you haven't got a hope in hell. Not one. You're not going to be in shape for the season, you're going to screw up important plays, you're not going to know what HIT you. If you don't get second string just 'cause you don't know what the !#$% is going on, you're going to get hurt. And hurt badly. And these first few years are crucial to your career. Crucial.

So take the money you are offered- its a lot, really. Especially for playing a game you love. And then play- 'cause you love it.

That's all.

I can't beleive I am going to the north with this question...being that Reggie was due at camp yesterday (?) and I LIVE HERE and I don't even know if he showed up or not.
Jeez-what kind of Aints fan am I?!

At last call - the 4pm showing of NFL Live on ESPN - Bush's agent was trying to make him the highest paid player in the draft, at least thats the rumor. If that's the case, he's in for a long hold-out because second pick doesn't get to be highest paid. If he wanted that, he should have sucked it up and took the contract offered by the Texans - incidently, this is exactly why the Texans didn't take him.
