The Weekly Recap...

This has been a typically busy week, mainly because everyone and their brother in my family has a birthday- me, my husband, our niece, the brother-in-law, the cousin... the list goes on.

Birthday's have started losing a lot of their magic for me- I don't know why. I guess that's another part of phasing into true adulthood, or whatever semblence of whatever I might be phasing into. Its nice, I just don't feel any anticipation. Nor for Christmas. I'm much more excited about the week the whole family (the hubbie's family) will be spending in North Carolina- that should be a blast. Good food, good wine, good company. And the kids are getting to the age where they can totally look after themselves (okay, they are 3-6- I'm just pretty lax with this mom-thing).

I also look forward to Fall. Every year its a complete event- I start cooking differently, I can pull out all of my favorite clothes in all of my favorite colors, everything gets beautiful and crisp. Even now, with my garden blooming and my backyard just springing to life, I'm looking forward to it dying off in the Fall. Go figure.

As for the weekly break down:

On Saturday we went to see Slither (and yes, I liked it, and not just because it had Nathan Fillion in it, though, that did help!). Afterwards, we went to a spanish restaurant in Frederick, called Cacique. It was lovely, a nice margarita and some ceviche to start it all off, then roasted duck for me and seafood stew for Kev, washed down with Concha y Toro wine. Lovely.

I got carrot cake on my birthday (actually celebrated on Kev's birthday)- Yum!

Also got a book I really wanted (my favorite sort of gift), a cutting board (sounds silly, but my old one is still lurking in my basement, with the other basement-dwelling boxes- I've now been without for two months. Two months is too long.), A lovely set of Louis Malle films (can't wait to get into those), and a panini maker (which I'm sure will be a happy addition once I can figure the blasted thing out). Oh, and Bermudian Black Rum. Can't forget that!

Rora has started the "I don't want to go to school, I don't feel good, my tummy hurts" thing. Boy, I was hoping to avoid that like the plague.

Will be going to the in-laws for Easter, and I tried to make petit fours for the occasion. Utter disaster. Is it only MY fondant that tastes like crap? Tonight I will have a go at Lemon/lime curd layer cake (one of my favorites to make- really light and beautiful).

Been thinking about my Evil Mix.

We just moved into a new house (our first) two months ago (in Maryland), and yet my goofy husband is looking at for sale listings in Bangor, Maine. Bangor. Maine. Might as well be Bangladesh.

Have been trying to get together with my good friend Amie for many, many moons. Trying again. 15th times the charm?

I love NPR.

Pondered this week: Why is it that whenever a big group goes out drinking, I always ended up staying with that last group of die-hard men. And why do I get along with them so much better than the women? Ended up having more in common with this old salt than with anyone else.

From what NPR has reported (and yes, I KNOW they're biased!), I am pretty glad that Silvio Berlusconi is out.

Saw half of Layer Cake. So far, not as good as I was led to believe, but it has a full hour left to change my mind.

Also started reading Christopher Moore's The Stupidest Angel. So far, so good. In fact, its been so long since I've read a book that doesn't have talking animals in it, I'm stunned I can even take in the non-illustrated text.

Okay, that's all I can think of- thanks for all the birthday wishes!
