The New Year...
So, its a new year, and just like every other lemming on this ball of dust, I set the resolutions of losing some weight (15 pounds) and working out more (train for a marathon anyone?).So far, I'm not doing too well with either. I started the year off with a cold, not a bad cold mind you, but one good enough to sap all the energy out of me. I've run only about three times this year so far. And I've tried to cut back on calories, but I've really never been much of a diet person- I like eating a bit more than I like not eating, basically. And I spend much of my day in front of a computer, which for me means there is a constant urge to snack vacantly while typing away. On the days that I do manage to keep the cal totals low enough, I come home without a lot of energy to work out, and I'm starving and headachy. I think I might be setting my goals too low. They aren't set really THAT low- at about 1500 cal per day, but I think 1700 might be more reasonable? Who knows.
So, I've been going on like this since the start of the new year, feeling pretty bad about my will-power, till I read this from my friend Anna's blog.
And you know, she's right. And now I feel better.

I don't think there's anything in the rules that says you have to start January One™. Last year I resolved to quit smoking and didn't actually quit until April. I think it's more that you make the resolutions and then try to have them all done by the end of the year. I only started on my one resolution this year, because of a convergence of circumstances and the fact that I managed to avoid getting sick.
I think resolutions over all are good. They're short term goals; things to strive for. I don't think you need to start January One™, though. I think you just need to try and be done by December Thirty-One. Heh.
